The alarm went off. We got up, dressed, and stepped out into the cool of the night. Only one thing would keep us from driving the last 40 minutes up to the spot—clouds.
And there were clouds.
As far as the eye could see.
We hit the road anyway, hoping we’d catch a break once we got out of Payson and started gaining elevation.
No such luck.
We climbed back into bed a little after 3AM.
And get this. If we’d gone up to the spot anyway, we would have woken up John and Jill (and Bodhi). Turns out they snuck away that night, too.
