Don’t call me a sellout

Walt Disney > The Walt Disney Company

This week I learned Disney was barely surviving at one point. Someone came to Walt asking to license Mickey Mouse for a watch he wanted to sell. Disney started making real money, and the rest is history.

Apparently someone wrote Walt a letter accusing him of selling out. And the story goes that Walt wrote back saying, “We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies.”

Exploration leads to discovery, people. This is what I’ve been trying to say for years. And because I couldn’t get the words right in my head, I had a hard time believing it myself. Allow me to adapt Walt’s words to Gearbox Magazine efforts.

We don’t help gearheads to make money, we want to make money so we can help more gearheads.

Don’t call me a sellout. I been here for years.
